Hi Tracy, Thanks for posting your questions re: your 5 yr. old. I wanted to take this moment to talk a bit about the 3 stages of childhood and how that plays out in homeschooling. In my former life (before homeschooling) I was a teacher in a Waldorf school and earned a dual degree in Human Dev. and Family...

  • Re: Why did you choose to homeschool - or why do you continue?

First let me start by saying that homeschooling is very new to us. We are just beginning our journey, halfway through this school year and thanks to God and we are on our way! There are several reasons for us starting to homeschool First - My daughter is currently 13 years old. A very bright, caring...

  • Re: Homeschooling a teenager - HELP!

Hi there . . Your daughter is fortunate! She has a mother who cares about her--about her love of learning--not merely about her achievement. I'm an editor at this site--and homeschooled a teenage girl!! Keeping that balance you mention-helping her toward things she already had an interest in, and...

Here, Here: I do not yet homeschool but I want to now. My daughter is 15 years old and very bright. She is not fitting in at school and her grades are dropping. We are not religous people which would actualy help her in the area where we live. I would like to see my daughter return to a love of learning...

  • Re: Made my heart all warm

That is really sweet. When my 14yo son got his email account, I sent him his first email. He got all embarrassed and thought it was wierd of me to email him when we live in the same house, but he did reply. :)

Hi Genihanna You are not alone on the teen ride. I assist my sister with her 11 & 12 year old and my children are full grown with the exception of the granddaughter I am raising. My 12 year old niece is so self conscious, feels that she can homeschool when she wants, goes to her room, tells you to...

Hi genihanna, I do indeed think they are from another planet! They can be so incredibly rude and selfish - then they will do something kind and wonderful and your heart melts. I love having teens, but I see it for the roller coaster ride that it is. When I EXPECT them to be a certain way, my hopes always...

  • Re: Why do you homeschool?

Hi genihanna, So you're homeschooling a foster child? What a gift you are giving to her! We have done foster care and were going to hs a 16-year-old we had for quite a while, but then her placement changed. It would have been such an awesome situation for her. My hat is off to you! Did you have any...

  • Made my heart all warm

Over Christmas break, my 13-year-old daughter got her first e-mail account (a frightening prospect, I know!). The first e-mail she sent was to me. She said she was glad that I spent so much time with her teaching her and helping her. It doesn't get any better than this......she warmed my heart after...
