  • Re: Homeschooling for Pre-K

Hi there, It is important when children are so young to encourage their creativity, imagination and curiosity. You might want to read a post that I just wrote on 5/1 re: early childhood. It's contents are geared toward questions re: homeschooling using a Waldorf/Steiner theory. If you read under...

Hi Tracy, Thanks for posting your questions re: your 5 yr. old. I wanted to take this moment to talk a bit about the 3 stages of childhood and how that plays out in homeschooling. In my former life (before homeschooling) I was a teacher in a Waldorf school and earned a dual degree in Human Dev. and Family...

You have such good ideas. Thank you. My boy really loves music and rhythm. He's constantly humming paterns and beats. We got him a drum set and he loves it. He even makes up songs using our names... abbi (daddy), mommy, and his baby brother Judah. You've inspired me to incorporate the A is for...

Thank you so much for the suggestion. I don't know why I didn't think of that. I like to take him out because there are so many chances to learn and teach but I just recently had a second baby and we've all been couped up in the house for the past two months. Now we'll make the library...

I suspect it is not very important to HIM to be able to recite the entire alphabet clearly nor to particularly identify all his numbers and letters. You might want to go to the State education department for your state (online)and...

  • Starting early

My son is only 2 yo, so I dont know if what we do right now is really considered "Homeschooling" I make a lesson plan with letters, numbers, colors, shapes. Each week has a theme, and then each day we do something for a subject and and the theme, like if that weeks theme is Snowman and our...

  • Re: New to homeschooling with young boys

Thank you for your response! I currently do the number and letter worksheets with the boys. They LOVE that. But, as you say they are not interested in pointing out the numbers/letters in other settings yet--for the most part. They love pointing out the numbers 1 and 2 in elevators. We all enjoy our "school"...

  • Re: New to homeschooling with young boys

We started homeschooling with a pre-schooler too! And I too wondered how long to "do school" and for how many days. Back then I didn't get, as much as I do now, that learning is a part of life. We all seem to be more comfortable being child-specific on "How much should they eat?"...
