  • Is it ADHD, bipolar (?), now diagnosed with Graves'

Hey, I am new and desperate. We have taken our son out of school. He is 8 (9 in June) and in third grade. He has always been a typical 'boy' in school. I have three other old children and I have been through the public school thing before. My oldest (son) is now 21. He was ADHD, dyslexic, later...

  • Re: I need help with my A Beka order

I have a 13 yo son and 8yo son who have been hschooled since grade 1. I too began with ABeka only. I never purchased the parent kits. I think like your friend this is esp. pertinent in the younger grades. When you get in the upper grades then yes, you may want to consider purchasing the teacher manuals...

  • Curriculum Fairs: Are they worth it?

There is a curriculum fair near the end of April. It's for the entire weekend and it's about 2 hours from where I live. If I go, I would end up staying at a hotel. So, after considering gas money, food and hotel, that could be the cost of the entire curriculum kits for both kids. I'm just...

  • Re: pre-k

I am using the hooked on phonics pre-k and a book from Walmart for preschoolers. I am also using flashcards for the alphabet and the ABC book by Dr. Suess. I also use candies and toys to learn how to count. I am new at this as well but these things work for me very well so far. I am trying a word of...

  • "Right Brain" Curriculum

I am brand new to home school and have done LOTS of research concerning my 14 yr old daughter. Apparently, most teaching is in "Left Brain" method! Is there any type of special curriculum or teaching strategies for this?????

  • Re: Three months left in school

Hi Beverly, Sometimes when a child is only familiar with the traditional school setting, he/she may need some time to allow for the transition into homeschooling. This may be a great time to allow for some de-schooling. Allow for your daughter to be a part of the process in determining what direction...
