    Curriculum planning for special needs

Does anyone here use a curriculum consultant to plan their program for their special needs kids?  Would you share how it is going and how they have helped?

Re: Curriculum planning for special needs

When we pulled our son from the PS system he had an IEP (Individualized Educational Plan) due to his special needs.  B/c we live in a very regulated state, the hs'ing law requires any student that had previously been in the PS system w/an IEP to have all educational goals and objectives approved by a state certified spec. ed. teacher.  This must be done annually and submitted to the sch. dist. at the beg. of each sch. yr.  We have been fortunate enough to locate a homeschool mom/cert. spec. ed. teacher to do this for us.  She understands the homeschooling world b/c she lives the life too, yet she has the background that is needed for us to legally submit our goals/objectives.   She offers up some advice, but doesn't try to plan out our homeschooling experience.  She is a sounding board more or less w/great ideas and is really encouraging...she doesn't put herself above us b/c she is certified in spec. ed. and we are not.  She stands on equal ground as a fellow homeschooler and this really helps!

I do know of some Home Ed. Consultants that offer many services such as this and so much more (i.e. - third-party grading, testing services, tutoring, evaluations, portfolio's, etc)  It is nice to have another opinion, view point, observer etc. to help when things aren't going the way you had planned or if you just want some reassurance or direction.
