    New Home Schooling

I am on a journey to begin home schooling my 12 year old.  I have recieved the testing material to find out just where my son needs to start.  If he were in public school he would be in the 7th grade.  The math test has me really worried.  My son has either forgotten most of what he has learned or he hasn't learned much.  I guess it is possible that I expect too much from him but I am in shock.  I was worried about being able to teach him everything he needs to know, but now I think that I can't possible do any worse than the public school system.  Has anyone else had this happen?

Yes last year we decided to homeschool my 8th grade (13 yr) daughter who was an A student. When we tested her she was 6th/7th maybe. We decided to review last year & I am so glad we did. We are still struggling with math but we are taking our time. We use time4learning and have been pleased. Don't rush into any set curriculm. Coming from public most kids need time to rest from school. He is learning so much more at home just teach him where he is at don't worry about grade level.

It has been over a week since I sent in the test papers and I still haven't heard back, but in the mean time we are working with a computer program I found called Compton Math, I have him working at the 7th grade level so we will continue that until the other math gets here.  I may have him continue to do both.  We are also working on geography on our own and I have to tell you I have found out how much I have forgotten since I took geography.  We have been having fun doing it together.

I am totally frreaked out. I took my 7th grader out 2 weeks ago and he started taking the tests and he is so far behind. I feel taking him out was the best decision we ever made. I'm so glad I found this site, cause I thought somehow I had failed my son. I have always been involved in school with him. He was really sad when he couldn't do the work lower than his grade level, and I was soooooo upset. I prayed and realized we have all the time in the world to catch up, we don't have to do what the school says anymore. I never really had a problem with the school until this year. I have a younger son in the 3rd grade but right now he is doing fine and I don't want to take him out until I know what I am doing:) My son is way behing in math , and language arts everything else seems to be fine. He told me there were things on the test he hasn't even learned yet, so you can imagine my suprise.
