I enjoyed reading the 6 Great Things about Homeschooling under the Quick Tips (in issue 102). Here are my additions to this list:
7. We can minister together more often as a family. Yes, my children and I have the privilege of being available to do childcare, elderly visits, make and deliver meals, etc. Our time is more flexible and we have been blessed to minister in ways that we could not have done were we tied to a traditional classroom setting.
8. My teens are less stressed by peer pressure. This doesn't mean that they don't have some peer pressure as they interact with teens at Co-Op's, church, or jobs, but we are able to discuss what is going on and pray through the struggles that come our way.
9. When we are ill, we can still do some "schooling" without having to expose our classmates to additional germs. We do have days when the fever is too high or the coughing/sneezing is too distracting to concentrate on subjects; but if we are able to do a few school items, we're farther along than if we had done nothing.
10. Living through life-lessons is easier when we do it together. As our family faced the hip fracture and hospitalization of my mother, the overnight stays by me (the teacher), and the additional hospital visits of my children (the students), we were able to learn so much through this event. My older daughters rose to the occasion and took on extra household responsibilities as well as assisting their younger brother with his schoolwork (on some of the days when Mom was gone).
