    Teaching a foreign Language

    Hi

I am going to start home educating from September 2008 at KS3 level (UK).

I would like to introduce a foreign language to my daughter.  My second language is Dutch (we lived in Holland during my teen years, so picked up the language, although not that good now).

How do I go about finding language lessons for an 11 year old?  I don't mind which language she learns, just personally think it is an important area of life for her.

Does anyone have any good resources please? Are there any sites where you could perhaps have a foreign penpal who might be learning English that they could converse with?

    Thank you in advance.

Any other info which might be of use with us just starting out would be very gratefully received.

Hi.  I teach French and/or Spanish for homeschoolers.  I will teach individuals or groups.  Let me know what you need.  I am in Potomac, Maryland.

Hi! I am new to this site. I have been homeschooling my daughter since 5th grade. We will be starting her 9th grade year (High School) in August. She is required to have two years of a forign language. We were interested in Spanish. Do you do any online courses? We are down her in Atlanta, Georgia.

    Than you :0)

    Hello, nebraska1989!

Welcome to HSI!  I know you will find many valuable resources here.  Be sure to check out Home School Reviews for curriculum reviews written by actual home schoolers.  I have a daughter entering 8th grade in the fall and, based on the recommendation on Home School Reviews, I am strongly considering "Visual Link Spanish".  You can view a free demo at www.learnspanishtoday.com.  You might want to check it out.

As you are entering the High School years, be sure to take advantage of our PER planner as it will make building a transcript for college much easier.  Also, be sure to check out College Corner which will give you tips and encouragement from planning high school through attending college.

     Happy Schooling!

     Hello,

I'm in the same boat with my 9th. grade son.  I will be using Rosetta Stone Spanish (Latin America) this fall (CD).  The homeschool version has built in workbooks and tests.  Go to rosettastone.com to see a demo.  The program even evaluates your speech.  I hope you have a good year.
