    Editing Materials

Hi - Is there a way to edit the materials that have already been added? I added a bunch of books by their titles, but now I would like to go back in and add the authors and a few other notes. So far, it seems the only way to do that is by deleting the book entry and adding it again in its final form. If, the ability to edit the material list is currently not a feature in the PER function, is it possible to consider adding it? Thanks, DeAnna in CO.

    Re: Editing Materials

Thank you for your suggestion DeAnna!  We will put it on our list of additional features to include in PER 2.0.  (Right now we're in PER 1.0)

You are correct.  Right now while you can always add or delete materials in a Course (in Courses at a Glance) you can't edit existing materials.

Suggestion: Right now one thing you could do, as a work around, is to add the authors by adding one more book item:  Type:  book   Title:  The authors of the above books  Additional Notes on this Item:  (then list all the authors, in order of the above books, that you had already entered.)

This way you wouldn't have to re-enter the book titles.  These author names wouldn't be connected on the same line as the book titles, but you would be getting the authors' names into your Materials Report, and it would be clear that the authors match the above books.

If you do that, please let us know how you like it!  Thanks so much, Virginia Vagt, Editor at Home School, Inc.

    Re: Editing Materials

Hi again DeAnna.  Another way to add the notes you'd like to add, without re-entering the titles, is to create a new book and title it Book Notes.  Then in the "Additional Notes on this Item", use initials for the book:  i.e., Jane Eyre, refer to it as JE, and then add your notes.  Not perfect--but it would be a quick way to get your notes into your Materials List--and then when you ask for it, on your Materials Report for this term.  Hope that helps!  Virginia

    Re: Editing Materials

Virginia - Thank you for your quick reply. Since, I am in the set-up process I've adding and deleting like crazy trying to figure out how this system works. I solved my problem by deleting the "Material" entires I had made and starting over. As I entered each material I made sure to add the author and any other book info. I needed in the notes section. My suggestion to others is to have your stack of books ready as you are setting up, or at least one book for each course you plan to create and enter all info. at once until there is an edit materials option. I have to say that so far I love this program and am excited about a future version, I hope it alright if I make a few more suggestions. Using the Template Feature to: - add assignments by day ( Read book LMN on Mon. & Book XYZ on Wed., Thurs. & Fri., sort of the same way you can schedule course days, only within a course and using the range template). - add students assignments. Thank you for your great work! DeAnna

    Hi again De-Anna,

We're so glad you are finding PER valuable!!  Your suggestions are a great help!! Thank you!! We keep a prioritized list for PER 2.0 and will add these.

Another idea for when you are creating a course--in that moment you only need to enter one item.  If you aren't ready with the details of your books, you can enter an item called discussion, and describe how and what you'll discuss in this course.  Then, when you're ready, you can add the books with the details you'd like to add.  You can always add and delete.  Hope that helps! thanks again! Virginia
