    The Death of the Museum?

This past week we visited Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Williamsburg.  Each time we visited a museum type attraction, I noticed that the kiddos traveling with us practically ran through the exhibits.  They were not interested at all unless there was something hands on to do.  Is this typical of most kiddos in the video/all about me generation?  If so, how are museums and landmarks going to survive?

That is a good question. Since my guys are still so little (6 and 2), we have only tried the Science Museums (hands on), Children's Museum (hands on) and Train Museum (absolutely mesmerizing to my then 4 year old; he could have examined the trains forever). I have not ventured into other types of museums. I can remember going to Washington as a 5th grader myself and only stopping and taking in the exhibits that I was interested in (anything with animals or President Lincoln or Washington). The other stuff, I whipped through. However, I think about The Night at the Museum and Curious George; both those movies ended with making the museums interactive. I don't know what will happen to museums. Will these kiddos grow up and start appreciating them as I have done as I have grown older, or are the days of the traditional museum gone?
