    Mixing up b and d, and v and Y

I am sure these are common mixed up letter for beggining readers, does anyone have any great tips or practices?

She's been doing this for a couple of months still, and we've tried a few different things.  Is it just a matter of time?

    Hi vowelmom -

Perhaps you've tried this; it worked for us when my kids were younger.

I used the word "bed" to help them remember which letter was which.  Since the lowercase b and d work together to hold the mattress on the bed, it's pretty easy to remember the order they belong in, and then the child can think about which sound she hears first.  I've just made it sound more complicated then it is, but it worked well for us. :)

Your child could write out the letters and draw the little mattress and pillow if that helped, or make the letters and mattress out of play clay or Lauri letters or whatever worked for you.

I'll try to post a picture of what I mean - not sure if it will work...

What a great idea!  I'll use that with my young ones if/when they get confused.

We were talking about the b and d, and my daughter thought of her own way to remember....  The b is friends with the rest of the word, and the d is rude and turns its back.  :)  Smart girl!

Maybe it will help someone else too.

This is great!! I love it. I am trying to teach my 3 year old granddaughter and this will serve a few lessons. Rhyming words, the lesson you mention and a few others. Thanks for sharing this.
