Hello I'm from Farnham in Surrey and I'm considering homeschooling my 3 year old until she reaches Secondary age. I'm considering joining Education Otherwise and HEAS to see if there are any homeschooling families and groups in my area. My only experience of homeschooling is helping my elder 2 with their homework. I would be grateful for any advice.

    Hi Pam,

Just a tip:  If you click Browse All Tags, when you come to the Forum homepage, and then click the United Kingdom tag, you'll see more posts from the UK. I'm an editor at this site--and a 13-year homeschool veteran.  It's a great life, slower paced but more flexible, and can have more to offer children.  You may enjoy our Column: Special Needs! Special Joys! You'll see it over to the right in Community.  If you do, please check out the first post there called Savoring!  It's about a homeschooling mother and specifically, her special needs daughter who has a great many challenges and has learned, experienced, and achieved a great many good things.

I wish you and your daughter the best!!

    Warmly,  Virginia

    Hi

I am from the UK my daughter is just about to enter secondary school but would like to take her out of school and home school her.  She is delighted with the idea and I feel from what I have seen from school feel I can do a better job as their teachers seem to have no control over the classes.  This is not the only reason, but would be great to hear from anyone who is teaching a child of that age, just how much do I need to go out and buy?

    Hi all,

I'm Jules, married mum of 4 children, living in Devon, England.

We have been home-educating for over 5 years, if anyone has any questions I'd be happy to try to help.  My children are aged 12, 10, 6, and nearly 3.

Looking forward to chatting with you.

    Jules x

Hi Jules, I'm Natashya, married mum of 1 child 6. We are in Olney, England. We have been home-educating from the beginning. We are going to a home-ed conference in Wales this August, hoping to source curriculum. What have you been using? Regards Natashya ;-)
