My child would be using it for Grade 3 and I don't want it be "too young" for her. I've only heard good things about RS4K. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. It has been ok. We dont have any teens in our neighborhood

and he is lonely. We go to church once a week and my son isnt attracted at all to the small older crowd of the youth group there.

He goes to karate oncea week and my husband is gone from 2 pm-1 am 5-6 days a week. Not only do I get no help at home.

My husband and I barely have time together. All the pessure is on me to keep things together and provide some timefor our son on top of homeschool.

I believe in homeschool, but it's too isolating for my son. He wants to go back to public school or christian school beccause of it.

Has anyone else run into this kind of situation? He had originally wanted to be homeschooled ,because it gave him more time to think and learn

without the pressure at school to perform one set way.

Help anyone???

We did homeschooling with him and his brothers for two years but I realized this last year when he had his first year back at brick-and-mortar that his problems had not been solved.

He pretty much doesn't care and seems to have absolutely no motivations I can use to help him do better in school. He failed three classes last year. It had gotten to the point that we were having to micro manage him and we finally just took a more hands off approach and told him he needed to take responsibility for his own education. We were there to help him always but I wasn't going to pester him every moment of the day anymore. The result was three "F"s that he has had to do this summer. However, he is now screwing around with that!

I am soooooo frustrated!!!! I don't know what to do. I know that the more I try to get him to take things more seriously, the more he pushes back and gets mad. I'm not a softy and it usually ends in big blow up arguments. This isn't good for our home. Does anyone have experience with motivating a seemingly unmotivated child?

Homeschool Fall Fest Giveaway - Enter Now

This is a friend's site. Please enter...you may just win!

 holistichomeschooler.blogspot.com

Looking for Biography list for 1995 Sonlight Curriculum for 6th year

I have the 1995 Sonlight schedule for the 6th year.

My name is Serena Nicoll. I am
doing a science project investigating how students from different types of
schools understand conservation of mass and volume. I am asking for your help
in two ways.

First, can you and your children ages 9 and
older please take a survey? To fill out the survey, please visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/L77RJKX .

Second, can you please share this post so
that everyone will see it? I am trying to get as many people from around the
world to take this survey as possible. If everyone takes the survey and tells
their friends, I will have a really great study! Thank you so much for your
support!

I have all of my subjects nailed down and have a ton of resources but I don't know what to do for social studies. I just need a guide. For example, I use a text book for science that I found at a thrift store as a guide. For each chapter I pull in other resoures and ideas to make the subject rich. That's all I need for social studies. I have looked up what it even is so I have a little bit of an idea. I am a bit surprised that it not history and geography, but social studies now. I know those two are incorporated in that subject but I am lost as to how to do it. Anyone know of any good websites? Or have anything that they use that is not expensive or nearly free? Thanks for all your help!

Keeping them busy

I have a 13 year old child at home. moms struggle to find the right educational resources for their
children. So we at Edumecate have decided to create a site that will
bring all the educational resources out there for homeschoolers to one
place, without having to search through thousands of locations online.
It will allow you to benefit from the combined experience of
homeschooling parents everywhere.

As we are creating the site, we would love it if you could visit, and:

1)
Sign up by simply providing us your email address. You will be notified
when the site is completed and can then become one of our beta users.
This will allow you to be one of the first to reap the benefits. (Your

I'd like the option to choose her course work. Any suggestions? I tried Monarch last year, but she was frustrated with the lack of teacher/ human support.

We looked at Keystone, but I am wondering if it is worth the expense.

Swedish

I would like to teach my children (ages 6 and 1) Swedish. Does anyone know of some good materials?

Homeschooling a 7 year old boy with cerebral palsy

Hi! My name is Jennifer Cates. I am a wife of an Army chaplain and a mom to two precious boys. Our oldest boy, Ethan is 7 years old and has mild-moderate cerebral palsy. We are praying about homeschooling in the fall. Ethan will be in first grade. He is in a public school right now in a mainstream classroom and keeping up with the help of a one-on-one. The school is not working well with us with Ethan leaving early on some days for various therapies. Also, with moving every two years, it would be so much easier to homeschool.

Anyone have any suggestions about curriculum? I would love to hear from anyone with like stories and experiences with working with children with cerebral palsy. Thank you!

Bipolar Child

I am so glad this part of the web site is finally up and running. I was wondering if there are any homeschoolers of bipolar children? I started homeschooling a 7 yr old daughter and 10 yr old son last year after bullying issues with my son at a new school. Shortly after we moved to a new state, and new school my son began suffering from depression, bullying at school and was diagnosed with chronic depression and anxiety disorder. Prozac and therapy was started. After 4 mos., he became worse and we hospitalized for three days. After release, meds were increased and we had another diagnosis of ADHD. He had a very successful two months, and due to school issues errupting, we pulled him from the school a few days before the end of school and decided to call it a year. He played football and had a pretty good summer. It was at that time I decided to homeschool so as to not throw him back into extreme anxiety. Homeschooling was great with the meds for him. He was able to focus and learn and work. However at the same time of year, Nov, Dec. he began to go downhill into depression and anxiety. Long story-short, he was diagnosed Bipolas 2. We have been doing therepy , seeing a psychiatrist, and working with meds for bipolar for a month. He has had one set back after the holidays, and now is doing better. But my husband and I both know we are on a long road, with not real end in sight. Days of good, and days filled with hard. I am sad for my son, and what this must feel like for him. And for my family and how this is changing us. I would love to hear any ideas on homeschooling for BPs that anyone else is doing. I am a special education major and my husband is a therapist. So we know enough , but I know that ignorance is NOT bliss, and will take all the ideas I can wrap my mind around.

My name is Kristy and we just started homeschooling our oldest daughter. She is 5. In regards to reading I started by introducing the alphabet. I figured she needed to know that an "A" was an "A" before moving on. Now I'm getting mixed opinions. Some people say NOT to teach "ABC" but to teach only letter sounds. I'm also confused by what method to use. The two I have been most interested in are Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons and Explode the Code. I'm very confused about which is best though, and can I use them together?

I'm getting worried that I'm going to "mess up" this very vital part of learning and I'd like to find a strong method rigth from the start to prevent any confusion. The 100 Easy Lessons seems simple enough, but it has a ton of mixed reviews that makes me very hesitant. The ETC seems to be all positive. I'd love some feedback from people that have used these (or any other programs) for beginner readers! Did you do any previous learning before starting a program and if so what?

Did you teach the alphabet, just alphabet sounds, etc? Or move right in to a phonics program?

We read a lot of books, play alphabet bingo, etc, but I'm hoping to start something more very soon.

Thanks for any assistance!
